•On 25, 26 and 27 July 2025, the Grootseminarie (Major Seminary) in Bruges will open its doors to Cirque Plus. For 3 full days, artists from both home and abroad will take over the most welcoming garden in Bruges, bringing with them the best of what circus has to offer today. Cirque Plus is an open-air circus festival and a springboard for new circus talent. Our ‘Cirque Numerique’ event offers short, complete “numbers” (short circus acts) a place of their own within the festival programme.
These artists have made their way onto our Cirque Numerique stage: Leles (BR), Andrea Gonzalez (MX), Black Brick (SP), BuitenGewoon(NL), Cie de Cirque RQTC (AR), Emma Hörnell (SE), Sien Van Acker (BE), Aurelie Tercier (FR), Batist Van Baekel (BE), Duo n’Joy (BE), Trio Fullfa (BE), Fleur Perneel (BE), Duo Hopscotsch (UK), Meike Schnapper (DE), Amélie Degrande (FR), Cie. Faisca (IT/FI), Duo-NU (BE), Hannah Finn (US), Manon Verplancke (BE) and Cie. ‘waarom nie?’ (BE).
For whom?
- Artists who have completed training at a circus college, those who have received training at a circus workshop or those who are self-taught.
- All circus arts are welcome: acrobatics, balancing arts, juggling, clowning arts, magic and circus theatre. Aerial acts are only possible if you bring your own stand or Chinese pole. And if it is compatible in terms of set-up and take-down with the other acts.
- Cirque Plus continues to focus on open-air performances for a wide audience.
- This open call only applies to new or recent, short (max 15 min!) and complete “acts”. Soloists are also welcome. It is no use to send us your full show. We are only looking for short acts.
What does Cirque Plus offer?
- A daily allowance of € 300 per artist per performance day and a fixed transport allowance of € 50 for artists travelling in Belgium or max € 100 for those travelling from abroad. Healthy catering is provided.
- If really necessary, an overnight stay can be provided.
- A professional organization and facilities.
- A (8 x 8 m) performance area and a sound system.
- The act must be able to be performed outdoors and during the day. Lighting is not provided. To the extent possible, we can accommodate specific technical requests.
- The performer brings all other equipment (scenery, props, costumes ... / aerial acts provide their own equipment) needed to perform the act.
- The performances are included in the festival programme and presented on the ‘Cirque Numerique’ performance area between or during the other performances at the festival.
- There is a prize for the best act. A (professional) jury will judge the acts during the festival. The winner will get to perform as a supporting act for Uitwijken circus that visits several boroughs of Bruges (July 2026 – www.uitwijken.be)
- We have an enthusiastic and varied audience and offer networking opportunities with artists and professionals from the circus industry.
How to apply?
- Deadline for application: March 1, 2025
- You fill in this online questionnaire
- We expect a video recording of the entire act, in other words, no teasers or flashy promo materials. The video can be DIY, as long as the act is clearly visible.
- Candidates must be available to perform twice on Saturday 26 July 2025. The final performance schedule however will be determined based on the number of candidates selected.
- The submissions will be reviewed by the Cirque Plus Programming Team.
- The selection will be announced on April 1, 2025.
